EVENT FOR GRADES 7-12

This is an information email regarding our 30 Hour Famine event happening THIS weekend! There are a few important "musts" for this event (we are sleeping outside). Please find them below, and, as always, if you have any questions, please let me know!

Event info summary - Who: Grades 7-12. What: Fast (starts after lunch on Friday ends Saturday evening with a shared meal), group activities, poverty education, prayer and reflection, worship, and Feed My Starving Children food packing. Sleeping outside—bring tarp/rope/boxes for shelter + sleeping bag. You will need to complete a permission slip to participate! When: 7PM Fri Nov8 - 7PM Sat Nov 9. Where: Love of Christ Lutheran Church – the green grass between the CoC and the Sanctuary. Cost: $0 but See donation requests below.

*** Parents, it has become a tradition that there would be a potluck style meal provided by the parents of the participants, to be shared by the participants and their families, to break the fast. We are asking that you would bring food for us to break our fast Saturday evening. We will plan on having dinner in rooms 48-49 at 6PM! Please let me know if you would like to bring some food. I will have an official count of participants (so you know about how much to prepare for) on Wednesday evening. ***

*** Donations: 1) We are asking for a $5 donation to go toward a food donation project we will be completing. 2) We ask that you would bring water and/or juice to help sustain us on our fast. ***

 Who: Grades 7-12

What:

Fasting: The fast begins, on the students honor, after lunch on Friday afternoon. We will break the fast together Saturday evening.

Students with medical or significant personal needs for additional nutrition are welcome! Please let me know if arrangements need to be made regarding your student’s health and the fast!

We will be sleeping outside! Please bring some tarp, rope, and/or boxes to build a shelter for the evening. It will be chilly, I also recommend bringing a sleeping bag.

We will have group activities, education on poverty in our world, time for prayer and reflection, worship, a campfire, and we will participate in the Feed My Starving Children (FMSC) food packing event.

Our reserved time slots for FMSC are 9:00AM and 11:30AM on Saturday morning.

We will be taking a short trip to a local grocery store on Saturday afternoon to complete a Food for a Week event (this is where the $5 donation helps!).

We will need a permission completed in order for your student to participate! The permission slips are on the Youth Ministry table and will be available for you to complete this Wednesday evening or at the event Friday evening.

When: Please be to the church at 7:00PM Friday, November 8th. We will break the fast at 6PM on Saturday and the event will be complete no later than 7:00PM Saturday, November 9th.

Where: At Love of Christ Lutheran Church.

Why:

Fasting is a Biblical practice demonstrated in both the Old and New Testament. God's people have been fasting for thousands of years. Fasting is a spiritual discipline and a great reminder of the cost of following Christ, "For those who want to save their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for my sake will find it” (Matthew 16:25).

This event will also be an opportunity for us to learn about the reality of poverty in our world.

We look forward to seeing you all there!

Grace and peace,

 Kevin Anderson
